Our Plants, Our Stories: More Than Just a Love of Plants

Every plant has a story. Share yours.
There are the plants we bring home on a whim. The ones we watch grow for months. The ones that challenge us, and the ones that surprise us with a new leaf when we least expect it.
We find them a spot near a window. We learn to understand what they need. We take joy in watching them develop roots, grow, and bloom.
Then one day, we stop to look at them and realize just how far they've come.
That little plant we once brought home has become something so much bigger.
And sometimes, the plant isn't the only thing that has grown along the way.
So Much More Than a Pretty Plant in Our Home
If I love plants as much as I do, it's not just because they're beautiful.
Of course, I adore their foliage, their sometimes unusual shapes, and the way they can completely transform a room. But what touches me even more is what they can bring into our everyday lives.
There's something deeply calming about caring for something living.
Watering your plants after a long day. Taking a quiet moment to admire a new leaf. Spending a few minutes checking their roots or finding them a spot where they'll be happy.
These are simple little gestures, but they invite us to slow down.
During more difficult times, these small rituals can become a source of comfort. They bring us back to the present moment, to something real and alive, growing at its own pace.
Sometimes, caring for your plants is also a way of caring for yourself.
What touches me most is the way you describe your relationship with your plants.
Some of you tell us that caring for plants is your way to "switch off" or enjoy "a little moment for yourself" in the middle of days that sometimes move far too quickly.
I find that beautiful, because we're no longer just talking about watering or plant care. We're talking about those few minutes when we reconnect with something simple and alive, without pressure or expectations.
To me, that's part of the beauty of plants: they don't have to be rare, enormous, or perfect to make us feel good.
That sense of well-being is something I love creating in our boutique, too. And when I read the reviews you leave us, I realize just how much that atmosphere means to you.
"A little haven of well-being and greenery!"
It's such a short sentence, but it captures exactly how I want people to feel at Zarits: welcome to discover, be amazed, and take a little moment for themselves.
One Little Plant Can Spark a Lifelong Passion
Something else that fascinates me is how a single plant can become the beginning of something so much bigger.
Sometimes, we start with a Monstera or a little Hoya simply because we think it's beautiful.
Then we start learning about light, roots, and potting mixes. We discover new varieties, learn from our mistakes, and gradually build confidence.
One day, we catch ourselves recognizing plants by their foliage, eagerly waiting for a flower to bloom, or rearranging an entire corner of the house around our collection.
And before we even realize it, we've discovered a whole new passion.
It's one of the things I love most about my work: meeting people who walk into the boutique not quite knowing where to start, then seeing them again months or years later, full of discoveries, questions, and accomplishments.
I'm especially reminded of a review from Caroline that truly touched me:
"Since I met Meghan in late 2023, I've reinvested time and money into houseplants."
Caroline also shared that her collection has grown to nearly 175 plants and that she's learned how to care for them more successfully by changing some of her habits and growing techniques.
I think that's wonderful.
Not because of the number of plants, but because it shows how a passion can grow and evolve alongside us.
And sometimes, what starts as a simple crush on a beautiful plant becomes a passion we never even knew we had.
I love witnessing that transformation.
Someone who was once afraid of killing their first plant starts to feel more confident. They learn to recognize the signs, understand their mistakes, and eventually find themselves sharing advice with other plant lovers.
What makes me proud isn't just watching your plants grow. It's watching you grow alongside them.
And I truly believe those little victories deserve to be celebrated.

We Want to See What Your Plants Have Become
At Zarits, many of the plants we sell are still quite small when they leave our care.
We carefully select them, nurture them, and prepare them so they can begin their new life in your home in the best possible conditions.
But once they leave our boutique, a big part of their story becomes a mystery to us.
And I have to admit something: I'm always so curious to find out what happens to them!
Have they doubled in size? Found the perfect spot by a window? Bloomed for the very first time? Become the star of your collection?
Every so often, you send us updates, and it's always such a joy to discover your photos.
Like Sophie, who shared an update about her Monstera Albo after three years:
"It's healthier than ever and taller than me!"
Can you imagine?
A little plant leaves our boutique and, a few years later, grows taller than the person caring for it.
That's exactly what I love about this passion.
We might admire a plant for its beauty, but when we've cared for it over the years, it also represents all the time, attention, and patience we've given it.
And to me, that makes it even more beautiful.
It's this curiosity, and above all my desire to celebrate your accomplishments, that inspired our new community initiative.
Our Plants, Our Stories: A Community Initiative
Every plant has a story. Share yours.
With Our Plants, Our Stories, I want to shine a spotlight on the people who bring this passion to life every day.
Each week, we'll feature a different plant family and invite you to share photos of your beautiful, well-established plants.
The idea is simple: to show other plant lovers what a small plant can become with time, care, and a little patience.
Some of your selected photos may even appear directly on our product pages, helping others discover the full potential of each variety.
Because when you're buying a tiny plant, it's not always easy to imagine what it might look like one day.
And really, what could be more inspiring than real plants, grown by real people in real homes?
You don't need perfect photos or a Pinterest-worthy home. What matters to me is seeing how your plants have grown in your care.
Most importantly, I hope this initiative brings us closer together, gives us the chance to learn from one another, share our experiences, and celebrate those little victories as a community.
Because at the end of the day, sharing a passion makes it even more meaningful.

What If We Shared Your Stories, Too?
But I don't want to stop at the photos.
Because beyond the beautiful foliage, there are so many little stories we don't get to see.
The plant that brought you comfort during a difficult time.
The cutting someone gave you that you've treasured ever since.
The first bloom you waited years to see.
Or the plant that gave you so much trouble you still can't believe how beautiful it looks today!
Each month, we'd love to highlight some of these journeys in a new series of articles on the Zarits blog.
Funny stories, touching stories, surprising stories, and sometimes even a few disasters... because life with plants isn't always smooth sailing!
I'd love for these articles to become a place where we can see ourselves in one another's experiences, find inspiration, learn from each other, and realize that we share so much more than a simple interest in plants.
Because ultimately, it's not just the most beautiful plants that inspire me. It's also the people who care for them.
Our First Edition: Hoyas Take the Spotlight!
To kick off this new adventure, we're starting with a plant family that's especially close to my heart: Hoyas!
Do you have a mature Hoya that you're particularly proud of?
I'd absolutely love to see it!
You can send us up to two photos of your plant and, if you'd like, tell us a little about its story.
Selected photos may appear on Zarits.com to inspire other plant lovers. Some stories may also be featured on our blog and social media channels.
And as a thank-you, selected participants who reside in Canada will receive a $10 CAD Zarits gift card for each selected variety.
Participation is open to adults aged 18 and over, worldwide. Selection and publication are not guaranteed. You can review the full participation terms before submitting your photos.

Maybe your plant seems completely ordinary to you.
Maybe you see it every day without realizing just how much it's grown.
But somewhere out there, someone might be just beginning their journey with that very same variety, without any idea of what it could become.
And your plant might be the one that inspires them to give it a try, keep going, or simply dream a little bigger.
I also hope this initiative brings us even closer together, helps us discover the people behind the collections, and gives us a chance to celebrate all those little accomplishments that make our passion so special.
We were lucky enough to see your plants when they were little. Now, I'd love to discover what they've become in your hands.
Thank you for helping this beautiful community grow alongside us.
